Uganda, one of the most beautiful countries in Africa is a landlocked country in East Africa bordering Kenya, DRC, Sudan, Rwanda and Tanzania. The country has beautiful scenery as well as attractions; with half of the world’s famous gorillas as well as the friendliest people.

Home to the largest lake in Africa – Lake Victoria, source of the River Nile – Uganda is located in East Africa, with Kenya lying to the east, South Sudan to the north, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west and Rwanda and Tanzania to the south. With a population of 37 million people [2015 World Fact book estimates], Uganda is becoming ever more densely populated.

Climate
Uganda enjoys a fairly constant climate with ideal weather conditions ranging from the warmth of the lowland areas and lakeshores to the coolness of the highlands, with the Rwenzori mts in theWest, Mt. Elgon in the East and close to the Rwandan boarder. Temperatures range between 26C during the day and 16C during the Night.

The rains of about 175 mm per month appear mainly between April and October to November in the South, and from April to October in the North. The dry season runs through November to March.

Location

The Republic of Uganda is a landlocked country located in East Africa. It is bordered on the east by Kenya, in the north by South Sudan, in the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), in the southwest by Rwanda, and in the south by Tanzania.

The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, a large fresh water lake which is also shared by Kenya and Tanzania. The world’s second longest river, River Nile also starts it journey in Lake Victoria and its source can be accessed from Jinja, a small town in Eastern Uganda.

History

The country gained independence in 1962, became a republic in 1966 and had its first military coup in 1972. Between 1971 and 1985 Uganda had a total of five presidents. Since 1986, Uganda has had one president – President Yoweri Museveni.

Uganda takes its name from the Buganda kingdom, which encompassed a portion of the south of the country including the capital Kampala.

The people of Uganda were hunter-gatherers until 1,700 to 2,300 years ago, when Bantu-speaking populations migrated to the southern parts of the country.

Languages

The official languages are English and Swahili, although multiple other languages are spoken in the country.

It is a member of the African Union, the Commonwealth of Nations, Organisation of the Islamic Conference and East African Community.
